Our History

Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia, IN, was established in 1912 by Elmer Johnson. Elmer purchased the funeral home, along with a grocery store in the Vallonia area, after having worked for another funeral home in Little York from 1907-1912. His son, Oris G. Johnson, Sr. took over the business in 1931. the building that now stands in Vallonia was built by Oris Johnson in 1935.

In 1967, Gene Johnson joined the funeral home and took over the business following his father's retirement in 1969. Gene was a graduate from the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in Louisville.

Jackie Johnson, Gene and Mary Beth Johnson's daughter, joined the family business in June of 2000. Jackie is a 1990 graduate of Brownstown Central High School, she received a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Indiana University in 1994, and graduated from Mid-America College of Mortuary Science in 1997.

In January of 2001, Jackie purchased the funeral home from her parents and is the 4th generation owner.
