William Joseph Drees, Sr. 70, of Medora, died unexpectedly at 11:58 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2020 at his home. He was born on September 9, 1950 in Louisville, KY to the late William E. Drees & Dorothy Mae Wheeler Drees. He received his high school diploma from AHRENS trade school, attended Spencerian College, and was a graduate of Class #36 ILEA. Bill was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Medora. He was the former Town Marshall of Medora, an advanced EMT & LPN, was a volunteer fireman for Carr Township fire department for 25+ years. Bill was an instructor for the American Red Cross and taught CPR & AED at the Medora High School as well as taught the BAT class to the youth at Medora School. For several years he was head of the Medora Christmas Parade and served on that committee for many years and was former member of both the Medora Town Council & the Lions Club. He coached little league, was a Cub Scout leader, and represented Carr Township Fire Department at WHAS Crusade for Children. Bill enjoyed fishing, mower rides with his grandchildren, UK basketball, IWA Midsouth Wrestling, showing rabbits at the fair, and visiting bourbon distilleries in Bardstown. Bill married Peggy Ann Nolan at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Seymour on February 16, 1974 and she survives in Medora. Other survivors include a daughter, Jean Ann (Bob) Nevils of Scottsburg and a son, William Joseph (Danna) Drees, Jr. of Brownstown; grandchildren, William Mervin Dannyl & Dannyala Lee-Ann Marie Drees; step-grandchildren, Mandy & Daniel Ison & Brandy Nevils; step-great grandchildren, Mason & Macie Ison & Rowan Hazelip; bonus daughter, Angie Turner; bonus grandchildren, Kelsey & Josh Turner; brother, Robert (Mary) Drees; and sisters, Patty (Joe) Harley & Anne (Charles) Drees-Greenwald. Funeral services for Bill will be held on Friday, October 30, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Medora with Pastor Jack Belk officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, October 29th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home and from 10:00 a.m. until service on Friday at the church. Burial will take place at the Vallonia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or to the Carr Township Volunteer Fire Department.
