Johnson Funeral Home 2005 South Main Street Vallonia, Indiana 47281 812-358-3341 Vernon Lee Williams, 69, of Vallonia, died at 12:20 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at Our Hospice Inpatient Facility in Columbus, IN. He had been ill for 6 weeks. He was a very active member of the Frist Baptist Church of Vallonia. He loved his church and was there every time the doors were opened and he enjoyed mowing the grounds. Over the years he worked at Russell Stover, Vallonia Tree Nursery, worked for Rex Hauer and helped local farmers in Vallonia. He was an active member of the community and helped refurbish the fort in Vallonia. He was described as a very humble, caring, loving, sweet-spirited man who would help anyone he could and always had a smile on his face. He loved to donate what he could to charities and was always in constant prayer for those he loved the most, especially his son Clay and good friend Pam. Vernon was born January 24, 1948 in Seymour, IN to the late Charles M. Williams Sr. and Gertrude Tompkins Williams. He lived all of his life in Jackson County. Survivors include his son, Clay Williams and Samantha Deckard of Seymour; a granddaughter, Layah Marie Williams; brothers, Verle (Ramona) Williams & David (Becky) Williams both of Brownstown; sisters, Virgie (Kenny) Moore of Vallonia, Jenny (Ivan) Vittitoe of Seymour, Shirley (Ivan) Wessel of Brownstown, Patsy (Curt) Barker of Spraytown, & Judy (Mike) Evans of Las Vegas, Nevada; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friend Pam Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Virgil & Charles Williams. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Vallonia with Ivan Vittitoe officiating. Friends may call at the Church Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will take place at the Vallonia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church of Vallonia. Arrangements are being handled by Johnson Funeral Home in Vallonia.
