Sidney Gabbard III, of Seymour, passed away at 9:42 a.m. May 6, 2026, at Floyd Baptist Hospital in New Albany. He battled heart issues along with many other health issues over the years.
Sid was born on December 20, 1955, in Seymour to the late Sidney Gabbard Jr. and Reba (Colwell) Gabbard who resides in North Vernon. He attended North Vernon Schools.
He worked at Arvins Gladstone in Columbus, IN as a welder and other various jobs over his 30+ years before he retired in the early 90’s. Sid enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, country cruising, picnics, and working in his garage. One of his favorite things to do was taking his grandson, Lawson, on rides on his lawn mower.
Sid married Sherry (Lesnet) Gabbard on September 4, 1976, in North Vernon and she survives in Seymour. Together they had 3 children: Rachel (Mickey) Ault, Chris Gabbard, and Jessica Gabbard (Edward Garrett). He was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Veronica Ault, Haylee (Mason) Dillard, Kelsey Ault, Braxton Gullion, Keaton Ault, Chance Gabbard, Colson Gabbard, & Lawson Simmons. In July 2025, Sid received his first great granddaughter, Rawlyns Dillard. He is also survived by a brother, John Gabbard and 3 sisters: Patricia (Gary) Miller, Sharon Chavis, and Carrie (John David) Willis; and a sister-in-law, Ginny Gabbard. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Sid was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Larry Gabbard; brother-in-law, Terry Chavis. and a sister-in-law, Leslie Gabbard.
Funeral Services for Sidney Gabbard III will be conducted on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia with James “Buddy” Carmichael officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Johnson Funeral Home.
