Marilyn Jean Hammett, 81, of Seymour, died on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 11:37am at her home. In her last day she was blessed to be surrounded by her family and friends in person and also technology enabled her to visit with her grandson serving in the Marines in Japan. She was born on July 21, 1933 in Seymour the daughter of Ervin H. Kasting and Catherine Hehman Kasting Jager. On October 14, 1950 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour she married William L. Hammett, he preceded her in death on February 28, 2009. Marilyn retired from Schneck Medical Center where she was a Unit Secretary on the 4th floor. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a life-long resident of Jackson County. Survivors include her children: Cathy (Tom) Erickson of Indianapolis, Kerry (Rene') Hammett of Indianapolis, Michael (Bettanda) Hammett of Ellettsville, and Todd Hammett of Seymour; 11 Grandchildren: Matthew Erickson, Bradley (Regina) Erickson, Jenelle (Alejandro) Erickson-Bejarano, Kasey (Dan) Wright, Alissa (Dan) Drewes, Amanda (Paul) Taylor, Brian Hammett, Eric (Jessie) Hammett, Chris Hammett, Katie Hammett, and Seth Hammett; 10 Great Grandchildren: Cole Wright, Madison Taylor, Alana Jo Hammett, Briana and Sophia Erickson, Liam Drewes, Daniel Hammett, Ethan Taylor, Emma Taylor, & Kalynn Wright (and also a great granddaughter and great grandson due in the summer); Brothers: Ervin (Betty) Kasting and Edward (Charlotte) Kasting; one sister-in-law: Nancy Kasting; and a lifelong family friend: Larry Shade. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband; and a brother: Leonard Kasting. Visitation will be on Friday, February 20, 2015 from 4-8pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Seymour and also one hour prior to services on Saturday at the Church. Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11am at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Ralph Blomenberg, Pastor Philip Block, Pastor Jimmy Rodriguez, and Vicar Daniel Merz officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Schneck Medical Center Hospice. Arrangements by Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia.
