Louis Richard "Rick" Shoemaker, 84, of Vallonia, died at 7:25 a.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2020 at the Lutheran Community Home, Seymour. He had been ill for 7 ½ years. Rick was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Vallonia. He had formerly worked for Producers Marketing Association and most of his life he was a farmer of grain, produce and cattle. Rick enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Hickory Hills Golf Course, he also played dart ball and was a part of the Euchre Club. He sold property and was involved in the development of Brownstown Industrial Park and was a partner in the Poplar Cove Housing Development. Rick was born on November 8, 1935 in Vallonia to the late Louis & Leah Otting Shoemaker. On October 12, 1958 he married Doris Anna Wente Shoemaker and she preceded him in death on November 16, 2017. Survivors include 2 children, Dale Shoemaker of Vallonia and Rhonda Botti of Chicago; a brother, Eugene (Barb) Shoemaker of Vallonia and a sister, Margaret Snider of Salem. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 brothers, Carl, Robert & James Shoemaker and a sister, Norma Turmail. Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Jordan McKinley officiating. Friends may the visit the family on Tuesday, February 11th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home and from 10:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the church. Burial will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
