Lela E. Peters, 91, of Vallonia, passed away at 1:01 a.m. on Monday, September 6, 2021, at her home. She was born on October 6, 1929, in Corbin, KY to the late George D. Durham & Mollie (Petrey) Durham. On September 27, 1949, in Vallonia, she married Empson G. Peters and he survives. Lela was a member of Driftwood Christian Church. She worked for Fidelity Savings Bank in Brownstown for 16 years and served as branch manager for the last 3 years of her employment. After her years at the bank, Lela worked 16 years in the Recorder & Clerks Office at the Jackson County Courthouse. Survivors include her husband, Empson; son, Chris (Nyra) Peters of Vallonia; daughter-in-law, Theresa Peters of Champaign, IL; grandchildren, Curt H. Peters, Emily L. (Chad) Sommers, Anna K. (Yusuf Hermes) Peters, & Samuel J. Peters; great grandchildren, Selena, Dacy & Ebke Peters, Max & Lela Sommers. Lela was preceded in death by her parents; son, James E. Peters; brothers, James V. & Virgil Durham; sister, Anna L. Bush; & a granddaughter, Molly E. Peters. Funeral Services for Lela will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2021, at the Driftwood Christian Church with Daniel Ison & Steve Gommel officiating. Friends may visit with the family Thursday at the church from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will take place at the Vallonia Cemetery.
