Obituary

Kenneth Ray Taskey, affectionately known as Kenny, age 80, passed away at 6:18 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour.

Kenny was born on April 23, 1944, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Indiana, to Fred and Lucy (Darkis) Taskey. He grew up in the area, attending and graduating from Cortland School, which he humorously referred to as Cortland University. During his high school years, Kenny enjoyed working for local farmers, and after graduation, he began a long career at Cummins, where he dedicated 45 years of service as a machine builder at SYTECH, furthering his skills through certification at Ivy Tech.

In 1963, he began a loving relationship with Carol Woodruff, that culminated in marriage on March 1, 1964, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waymansville, Indiana. Later, Kenny and Carol became members of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Seymour.

A passionate equestrian, Kenny was actively involved in the Ogala Saddle Club, Broomsage Ranch, and Spurs and Wheels saddle club, where he served as president for several years. Kenny enjoyed playing Euchre and was a true card shark. After retirement he and Carol enjoyed many years out at Delaney Park as permanent campers where they made lifelong friends. He cherished moments spent riding horses, fishing, hunting, swimming, and camping with family and friends. Kenny also participated in several marathons, walking and bicycling races. He took great joy in supporting his grandchildren, whether through coaching basketball, assisting with cub scouts, or partnering in goat projects. The arrival of great-grandchildren brought him immense happiness, and he treasured every moment with them.

Kenny is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Carol Taskey, along with his son Darrin (Sarah Brooks) Taskey and daughter Tracy (Troy) Martin, one grandson, Eli (Morgan) Martin, and 2 granddaughters, Rachel (Taylor) Campbell and Olivia (Ethan) Martin. He is also survived by 5 great-grandkids, Grace, Kameron, Braxton, Brailee, and Wyatt. Kenny also loved on many other great-grandchildren through foster care.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wilma Johnson; and a brother, Carl Taskey.

Funeral services for Kenny will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia with Alisha Roberts officiating. Friends may visit the family on Sunday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to Hoosier Health & Living Auxiliary.
