Johnson Funeral Home 2005 South Main Street Vallonia, Indiana 47281 812-358-3341 H Hanly Hammel, Jr., 94, was the oldest of seven children born to H Hanly Sr and Emma Crumbo Hammel. Early Wednesday morning, June 4, 2014, he joined the love of his life, Laree Diehl Hammel in heaven. Four daughters were born from their marriage: Becky Lou MacDonald, Molly Kathleen Persinger (with whom he lived in Vallonia) and Jenny Laree (David) Isaacs. Eva Margarite died shortly after birth. Hanly and Laree loved their nine grandchildren and welcomed thirteen great grandbabies to the world. Hanly excelled in any challenge. He served in the military for years during WWII and served the people of the Lafayette community fulfilling verses in the book of James. Many of you may remember him from various legal, Masonic, Rotarian and other groups. He has honors and awards that overflow the walls, but his request was that they not be listed. Never one to preach but to demonstrate thru his actions he firmly believed that his "glory" was not of this world. At his request there will be no funeral. He requests that you enjoy a meal or time with a friend, co-worker, or family member; share his memory and love, not on just one short occasion but often. In typical HHH fashion his last day was spent watching the CUBS and wearing an IU basketball T shirt and ball cap. H Hanly Hammel, Sr. died in his forties and asked his older children not to place a marker on his grave til all seven completed a college education. Six became Indiana University grads and 1 a Ball State University grad. In the Hammel traditions, contributions can be made to the H Hanly Hammel Education Fund c/o Johnson Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at Johnsonfh.net. Arrangements by Johnson Funeral Home.
