Gregory Ray Johnson, age 70, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away at 12:40 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2026, at his home following a short illness.

Greg was of the Christian faith and was baptized at Central Christian Church in Seymour, Indiana. He was born September 26, 1955, in Seymour, Indiana, to the late Larry Joe Johnson and Faye Ray Jackson.

He was a 1973 graduate of Seymour High School and continued his education at Vincennes University and Indiana State University, where he earned a degree in Environmental Health & Safety.

During his high school summers, Greg worked as a lifeguard at Starve Hollow. He later worked for Cosco before beginning his career with Cummins Engine Company in 1977. He worked at Cummins as a Human Resource Manager until his retirement in 2013.

Following his retirement from Cummins, Greg devoted his time to farming his vineyard, something he loved dearly. He took great pride in his vineyard and enjoyed the work and time spent there.

Greg had many interests and hobbies throughout his life. He enjoyed restoring old cars and had a passion for racing open-wheel race cars. He was a member of Jackson Lodge #146 F. & A.M. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with family and friends.

Above all, Greg cherished his family. His grandchildren were his greatest passion, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He will be remembered for his love of family, his many friendships, and the joy he found in the things he loved most.

Greg is survived by his daughter, Nikki (Jason) Helmuth of Topeka, Indiana; grandchildren, Remington and Kimber Helmuth; sister, Mitzi (Michael) Lawson of Hanover, Indiana; and niece, Abby (Pietro) Cannizzaro: the mother of his daughter, Teresa Hamilton Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Joe Johnson and Faye Ray Jackson, and his stepfather, Howard Jackson.

Greg will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services for Gregory Ray Johnson will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Vallonia Christian Church with Marc Jackson officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will take place at Vallonia Cemetery.
