Frederick O. Criminger, Jr., 95, of Brownstown, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 5, 2020 at the Hoosier Christian Village. He was born on August 27, 1924 in Suffolk, Virginia to the late Dr. Rev. Frederick O. Criminger and Dorothy Barnes Criminger. His childhood was spent in Henderson, Kentucky and Slater, Missouri. He graduated from Slater High School in 1942 and then entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and was stationed in New Guinea and served during WWII. He received a Masters in Radio Broadcasting from SIU and started in Radio at WLOS in Asheville, NC in 1951 and later was program director of SIU Radio in Edwardsville, IL. Fred loved music, especially jazz, was an avid golfer, bowler, ping pong player, and hearts player. He was community minded and was very active in the Collinsville Lions Club. He loved his family and church family and was especially proud of his grandchildren. Survivors include his 3 sons, Fred W. (Tammy) Criminger, Chris (Sandy) Criminger, & Keith (Valerie) Criminger; a brother, George Criminger; grandchildren, Blakley & Brandi Criminger, Cassie Criminger, Tiffany & Justin Bickell, Tabitha & Raf Caudillo, Craig and Rachael Criminger, Kent & Madi Criminger, Alex & Isa Criminger, & Grace Criminger; great grandchildren, Cameron Carpenter, Samuel & Joshua Criminger, & Esther Caudillo. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the Vallonia Christian Church with Chris Criminger officiating. Friends may visit with the family Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be given to the Vallonia Christian Church or to the Hoosier Christian Village Auxiliary. Burial will take place, at a later date, in the Liter Cemetery, Literberry, IL. Johnson Funeral Home will be practicing social distancing according to the CDC guidelines and masks are encouraged to be worn during your visit to the church.
