Obituary

Frances Ilene Shelton passed away peacefully on November 16, 2019 at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana, at the age of 94. Frances was born at home on October 10, 1925 in Washington County, Indiana, to the late Iva (Childers) and Wesley Nicholson. A memorial service will be held at Johnson Funeral Home in Vallonia on Saturday, November 23rd at 1 p.m. with Reverend Mike Seaney presiding. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until service the time at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Proctor Cemetery. Frances married Ervan "Buck" Shelton who preceded her in death in 1988. They lived in Medora, Seymour and Vallonia, Indiana. Frances worked at GTE Sylvania in Seymour for 12 years. She also worked for Bell Telephone, the Charleston Powder Plant, G.C. Murphy and Marion Kay in Jackson County. In her eighties she was a Foster Grandparent assisting teachers at Emerson School in Seymour. She loved quilting and made beautiful quilts in her later years. She was a member of the Brownstown Nazarene Church. Frances is survived by her sons, Richard L. (Cheryl) Shelton, Greensburg, IN, Steven R. (Marilyn) Shelton, Labanon, OH, and Jack E. (Alexandra Lynch) Shelton, Bloomington, IN, sister Jenny Hirsch, Carmel, IN, and 9 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, John M. Shelton, and brother, Harley Nicholson. Memorial contributions may be given to Schneck Medical Center Hospice in care of Johnson Funeral Home, 2005 S. Main St. Vallonia, IN 47218. Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnsonfh.net
