Obituary

Frances Mae Stahl Nichols, 87, of Seymour, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 9:42 a.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the Lutheran Community Home, Seymour. She had been ill for 10 months. Frances was born on February 12, 1936, in Vallonia to the late Arthur H. & Elda Schneider Stahl. She was confirmed on April 10, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vallonia. Frances was a 1954 graduate of Vallonia High School. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown and was involved in the Ladies Aid and LWML. Frances worked as a Teller at Citizens State Bank, First National Bank, and Jackson County Bank. On June 12, 1955, Frances married Charles L. "Charlie" Nichols and he survives in Seymour. Other survivors include her children: Michael (Kathy) Nichols of Brownstown, Garry (Sandy) Nichols of Indianapolis, Douglas (Joan) Nichols of Seymour, & Trisha (Mark) Kelly of Columbus; 9 grandchildren: Katie (Scott) Volk, Christy (Nate) Tormoehlen, Justin (Alisha) Nichols, Jessica (Jon) Stopher, Stephen (Rachel) Nichols, Nathan (Olivia) Nichols, Dustin (Lexie) Nichols, Cameron (Caleb) Wettschurack, & Chad Kelly; 13 great grandchildren; a sister, Deloris (Alan) Wessel of Seymour; and several nieces and a nephew. Frances was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Leslie (Rita) Stahl. Frances was an avid quilter and made over 30 quilts giving one to each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also an avid collector of Santa Claus'. Charlie and Frances loved to travel and after their retirement they lived in an RV for 12 years and worked in many parks. Their favorite place to travel was to Yellowstone and they especially enjoyed being snowbirds in Florida. Funeral services for Frances will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown with Pastor Ryan Schneider officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, November 13th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service at the church. The burial will take place at the Lutheran Cemetery, Brownstown. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Peter's Lutheran Capital Fund, Trinity Lutheran High School Tuition Assistance Program, or to the Donor's Choice.
