Esther McNiece Rorig, 93, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at her home near Vallonia, Indiana after several months of illness. She was born in Jackson County, Indiana on September 13, 1919, the first daughter of Guy W. and Nellie White McNiece. Mrs. Rorig graduated from Brownstown High School in 1938 and became employed with the Jackson County Conservation Office. Later, she was employed with the State of Indiana at the Vallonia Nursery. She later was matron at the Jackson County Jail. Mrs. Rorig was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vallonia. She enjoyed playing the piano for people- she was an accomplished pianist. She married Edgar Rorig on August 23, 1942, in Brownstown. Edgar preceded her in death on January 6, 1983. She is survived by her only child: David Joe Rorig (Carol), former Jackson County Sheriff, of near Brownstown; Grandsons: David Rorig of Brownstown and Darin (Sherry) Rorig of Brownstown; Granddaughter: Dawn Rorig Simmons (Anthony) of Pacifica, California; two great grandsons: Jacob & Joshua Rorig of Brownstown; Brother: Donald W. McNienceof Fishers, Indiana; two sisters: Ruth (Ralph) Pardieck of Seymour and Florence McNiece of Indianapolis; and several nephews, a niece, great-nephews and great-nieces She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother: Gerald W McNiece, and a young brother: Richard J McNiece. Visitation will be from 4-8pm on Friday, September 6, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Home in Vallonia and also from 10-11am on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be at 11am on Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Eric Ahlemeyer officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Brownstown.
