Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Janice Shoemaker, 82, formerly of Vallonia, passed away at the Lutheran Community Home on Friday, April 16, 2021 after an extended illness. Betty was born on November 10, 1938 in Lutherville, AR to the late H.M. Hansen & Mary Bates Hansen. She was a graduate of Vallonia High School. Betty married Erman Shoemaker at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vallonia on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1956. They just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Betty was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she directed the Praisemakers, was the church organist, and a member of the LWML. Betty was the school secretary at Lutheran Central School and taught piano lessons for many years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening & arranging flowers. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother & great grandmother. Survivors include her husband, Erman Shoemaker; children, Lisa (Joe) Lohmeyer of Columbus, Carol Delph of Brownstown, Bruce (Denise) Shoemaker of Vallonia, & Julie (David) Dietrich of Columbus; grandchildren, Ryan (Julie) Delph, Kelley (Patrick) Whitson, Brianna (Wes) Spray, Betsy (Dave) Elwert, Katie (Brian) Walker, Jacob (Hannah) Dietrich, Matthew (Ashley) Shoemaker, Katelyn Shoemaker, Maggie (Nick) Combs, & Cameron Shoemaker; great grandchildren, Mia & Lila Spray, Oliver & Noah Combs, Emery Whitson, Madison Walker, Gracie Dietrich, & Luke Shoemaker; brother, Hans (Greta) Hansen of Seymour; sister, Ruth Rodewald of Concordia, MO; sister-in-law, Margaret Hansen of Anchorage, AK, brother-in-law, David Sholtis of Highland, IL. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Herman Jr., Walter, Edward, & William Hansen; & sisters, Maralee Schroeder, Gert Swindler, & Helen Hall. Funeral Services will be conducted at Trinity Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20,2021 with Pastor Jordan McKinley officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church Organ & Music Fund & Heart-4-Haiti. Johnson Funeral Home will be practicing social distancing according to the CDC guidelines and masks are encouraged to be worn during your visit inside the church.
