Dorothy Marie Cox Hadley , Age 89 of Brownstown, IN died peacefully at 9:30 am, Friday, April 5 at Hoosier Christian Village after a 5 month illness Member of Brownstown United Methodist Church. She had been a cook for the Brownstown School System and Jackson Park Convalescent Center. She loved working with children and fulfilled her dream of being a teacher by being a Foster Grandparent in Rosie Dyer and Jill Stuckwisch's kindergarten classes at Brownstown Elementary School for 18 years. She had been a 4-H leader for the Driftwood Dollies, Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, and enjoyed being on the grounds committee for Fort Vallonia Days for many years. Attended Knifley High School in Knifley, Kentucky, but was unable to graduate or go to college because of World War II. She was very proud of earning her GED in 1976 from Seymour High School. Born in Taylor County, KY on November 6, 1923. Parents were Alrey Warfield Cox and Pearlie Esther Bottoms Cox, deceased Married Lurner G Hadley on April 18, 1941 in Salem, IN and moved to Jackson County from Washington County in 1949. He preceded her in death, November 27, 1968. Children: Jerry L. (Helen) Hadley, Henderson, Maryla Judy Marie Hadley (Joe) Miller, Brownstown, IN Joanne Hadley Persinger, Medora, IN, Lori J Hadley (Kenny) Holloway, Seymour, IN, Grandchildren: Diana (Brian) LaClair, Justin (Leigh) Hadley; Larry (Heather) Moore, Morgan (Martin) Lowe Joshua Holloway and Lauren Holloway Great-grandchildren: Tanner, Aaron, Zarrin, Ravyn and Kane Brothers: All deceased, Edgar Ray Cox, Kirby Woodrow Cox, Vance Lee Cox, Sisters: One living, Aileen Gunter, Indianapolis. Deceased: Bertha Mae Warren, Venia Esther Mann, Mary Hazel Hughes. Several nieces and nephews are surviving Funeral: Tuesday, April 9 at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia Visitation 11:00 - 1:00 on Tuesday before the service.
