David W. Elliott, 83, of Medora, passed away peacefully at his home, on Friday, October 23, 2026.

Born on February 12, 1943, David was the son of Sherman and Daisy (Cheeley) Elliott, both of whom preceded him in death. On November 2, 1967, David married Betty Sue Earl Elliott, and she preceded him in death on June 14, 2026.

David spent many years driving a semi-truck, seeing many places and experiencing so much throughout his life. A proud United States Army veteran, he wore his military hat every day as a reminder of his service to his country. He began his career at Bundy Brothers and Sons in Medora, Indiana, before driving for Moon Freight Lines in Bloomington, where he remained until his retirement. After retiring, David enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up and eventually moved from Scott Street in Medora to Perry Street. Some of his favorite summer evenings were spent sitting on the porch with his wife, family, friends, and anyone who stopped by for a visit and conversation. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering with Wheel Horse tractors, which often kept him busy, along with Larry, who would lend a helping hand when David couldn't remember how he had taken something apart. His final treasured purchase was a 1931 Model A, which he proudly displayed in the car show at Medora Goes Pink. Along with being a proud military veteran, David was also a cancer survivor. He faced esophageal cancer with strength and determination, and after a difficult battle, his cancer remained in remission for five years. Through the challenges, he leaned on his faith in the Lord and the many prayers offered on his behalf, finding strength and comfort in both.

David is survived by his children: Donnetta (Larry) Bennett & David L. (Heidi) Elliott; grandchildren: Morgan Smith, Nick (Tabby) Smith, Whitney (Matt) Brock, Brayden (Josie) Watson, Lily Stroh, & Tanner (Brooke) Bennett; great grandchildren: Arrabella Smith, Laityn Smith, Wylie Brock, & Baylor Watson; brothers: Kenneth Elliott, Richard Elliott, & John Elliott; sisters: Mae Sons, Alice (Alvin) Smith, Cora (Allen) Clidinst, & Sarah Elliott.

David was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; brothers: Sherman Elliott Jr. & Willie F. Elliott; sisters: Doris Woods (David’s twin), Carolyn Lindley, Mary L. Nicholson, & Laurel Ernest.

Funeral services for David W. Elliott will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Medora, with Pastor Janis Mikits officiating. Friends may visit with the family at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Memorial contributions may be given to HOPE Medora Goes Pink.

Burial will take place at Proctor Cemetery at a later date.
