Crystal Dawn Engelking, 35, of Freetown, died at 3:10 a.m. June 2, 2013 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She attended First Nazarene Church of Brownstown and had been newly employed at Hucks in Brownstown. Crystal was an amazing mother and her family was the most important thing in her life. She loved camping, swimming, fishing, horseback riding, gardening and playing softball. Her family says she was the "caretaker" in the family and was the one who kept everything going. Crystal was born January 18, 1978 in Seymour to Harold (Tina) Wheeler of Vallonia and Karen Fleetwood (Charles) Scott of Medora. She had been a lifelong resident of Jackson County. She married Nathan Engelking on July 8, 1995 in Freetown and he survives. Other survivors are her 3 children, Austin Allan, Crystal Dawn & Hunter Renee Engelking all of Freetown; a brother, Steve Wheeler of Medora and a sister, Terrie (Billy) Eldridge of Crothersville; Step brothers, Brandon L. Boling of Seymour, Kyle A. Boling of Hayden, and Travis Scott of Levenworth; step sisters, Kira D. Marshall of Brownstown and Dawn Scott of New Albany; Mother in Law, Teresa J. Spurgeon; 3 brother in laws, Gary Wayne (Jessica) Engelking, Joshua C.L. (Cari) Engelking and Daniel J. Engelking; lots of other surviving extended family. She was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Wheeler and a niece, Summer Wheeler. Fuenral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home with Dale Boyd and Mike Tolliver officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 until time of service Thursday. Burial will take place in the Wheeler Cemetery. Memorials can be given to the Engelking Children.
