Catherine Louise Turmail, age 93, of Vallonia, passed away peacefully with her family beside her, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Hoosier Health & Living.

Catherine was born in Vallonia, IN on May 22, 1933, to the late Noel Winslow & Stella Shafer Winslow. She was a 1952 graduate of Salem High School.

On April 29, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Vallonia, Catherine married Karl T. Turmail and he survives in Vallonia.

Catherine was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Brownstown. She worked as a copy editor for the Brownstown Banner until her first child was born. She was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to raising her children and creating a loving home for her family. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished attending their school, sporting, and other special activities. Her love, support, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include, her husband Karl Turmail; children: Randall (Michelle) Turmail, Steven (Shannon) Turmail, & Sharon (Philip) Pottschmidt; grandchildren: Christin Turmail, Jason Turmail, Jeff (Kelby) Turmail, Leslie (William) Holder, Rachel (DJ) Rouse, Michael Turmail, Sarah (Dylan) Hoyt, Wes (Brycelyn) Pottschmidt, Megan (Silas) Cheo, & Levi Pottschmidt; great-grandchildren: Liam & Charlotte Holder, Henry & Connor Rouse, Tucker, Teegan, & Tatum Turmail, Kaylen & Finley Turmail, Molly Hoyt, Addi & Gus Pottschmidt, & Lincoln Cheo; sister-in-law, Karen Darlage.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Heather Lee; in-law’s: Miriam & Lew Oberman, Roger & Kathleen Hackman, Ed & Sue Bohlmann, Tom Darlage & Larry Turmail.

Funeral services for Catherine Louise Turmail will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Brownstown with Pastor Ryan Schneider officiating. Friends may visit the family on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will take place at Vallonia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or Donors Choice.
