Obituary

Carolyn Louise Shoemaker, 77, of Vallonia, died at 8:40 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the Lutheran Community Home. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Vallonia. She was actively involved in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and also served as a board member and County Women's Leader for Jackson County Farm Bureau, Inc. Carolyn had been a secretary for Bateman Engineering and Nierman Law Office and a Lutheran Service Specialist for Thrivent Financial. She was a 1960 graduate of Brownstown High School and graduated from Ivy Tech Business College. Carolyn was born on January 11, 1942 in Jackson County to the late Alfred & Frieda (Eggersman) Grelle. She married James Ronald Shoemaker on January 21, 1962 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown and he preceded her in death on August 2, 2014. Survivors include her 4 daughters; Jane Ellen Shoemaker (Tim) Tiemeyer, Vallonia, Teresa Marie (Dale) Pottschmidt, Seymour, Barbara Sue (Kevin) Wehmiller, Seymour, & Pamela Louise (Terry) Stuckwisch, Seymour; Grandchildren, Christin Turmail, Jason Turmail, Jeffrey (Kelby) Turmail, Joshua (Kate) Pottschmidt, Tyler Pottschmidt, Clayton Pottschmidt, Jamie Wehmiller, Zachary Wehmiller, Craig (Riley) Stuckwisch, & Chad Stuckwisch. Other survivors are brothers-in-law, Richard Shoemaker & Eugene (Barbara) Shoemaker; sisters-in-law, Margeret Snider, Lois Shoemaker & Mary Ann Grelle. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother—Marvin Lee Grelle, brother-in-law, Robert Shoemaker and sisters-in-law, Norma (John) Turmail & Doris Shoemaker. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, April 13th at 11:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Vallonia with Pastor Jordan McKinley officiating. Friends may visit at Johnson Funeral Home on Friday, April 12th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will take place at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Lutheran Hour Ministries or Trinity Lutheran Church.
