Beulah Root Jones, 85, of Vallonia, died Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 2:20 p.m. at her home. She had been ill for several months. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vallonia and was retired from the Medora Plastic Factory. Mrs. Jones was born March 4, 1928 in Clay County, Kentucky to Jerry and Emma Baker Stewart. She has lived in Washington County over 50 years. On November 15, 1945 she married Elbert (Nick) Root in Clay County, Kentucky and he passed away on October 31, 1977. In April of 1986 she married Robert Jones and he survives in Vallonia. Other survivors include her children, Marie Henry & Michael Root of Hayden, Brenda Root & Roger Root of Vallonia, Judy Burris & Karen Lashbrooks of Salem, and Jerry Root of Medora; also numerous grandchildren, great grand, and great great grandchildren survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, and 2 sisters, Imogene Hale and Ruby Bray. Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, October 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Vallonia with Ivan Vittitoe officiating. Friends may call Monday from 4-8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will take place at the Vallonia Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Vallonia or to the Hoosier Uplands Hospice.
