Barbara Sue Sommers, 81, of Brownstown, died at 8:36 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2021 at Columbus Regional Hospital. She was born on May 16, 1939 in Salem, IN to the late Edgar Scarlett & Flossie Bridgewater Scarlett Lane. On August 2, 1957 she married David R. Sommers and preceded her in death on October 24, 2014. Barbara attended Brownstown Nazarene Church and was a Homemaker. She was once a member of the Jackson County Treasure Hunt Club. She enjoyed painting, crocheting, mushroom hunting, but most of all loved spending time with her granddaughters. Survivors include her daughter, Becky Givens of Brownstown; grandchildren Kerri (Justin) Reynolds & Ben (Brittney) Givens; great grandchildren, Megan & Olivia Saunders; brother, Steve Scarlett; sisters, Marlene Perry, Alice Elkins, Marjorie Climer, & Naomi Branson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, David Wayne Sommers; great granddaughter, Savannah Johnson-Carpenter; brothers, Edgar, Irvin, Mike, Billy & Blaine Scarlett; sisters, Pearlita Rush, Betty Adams & Beverly Wilkerson. Funeral Services for Barbara will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will take place at the Vallonia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Donor's Choice.
