Richard L. “Dick” Grissom, 94, of Brownstown and formerly of Piqua, OH, went home to be with his savior at 9:10 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018. He was born in Piqua on May 25, 1923 to the late Leroy and Matilda (Heins) Grissom. On November 28, 1942, he married E. Jean (Kindle) Grissom who preceded him in death on May 15, 2014. Richard graduated from Houston High School at age 16 in 1940. He served in the US Army during World War II. Upon returning home he was employed by Hartzell Propeller for 40 years. He loved his work and always counted his years there as a gift from God. During this time, he obtained a private pilot license. In the sixties he and his wife owned and operated Piqua Coin-Op along with special friends William “Bill” and Helen Brownlee. He was an active lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Piqua where he served on many boards and committees. Along with several of his Hartzell friends, he swam on his lunch hour every work day at the YMCA for 20 plus years. In addition to his many church activities, he was a member of an investment club. In 2010 he and his wife moved to Brownstown to be near his daughter Marcia Hudson and son-in-law Mickey Hudson. They survive along with grandson Rick (Summer) Hudson of Francesville, IN; a granddaughter E. Nicole (Stacy) Downs of Brownstown; great grandchildren Jadyn M. and Carter M. Hudson. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 31st at 11:00 a.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Andrew Currao and Rev. Joseph Barlau officiating. Friends may visit at the church Saturday from 10 until time of the service. A Christian graveside service committal will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Piqua, OH on Tuesday, April 3rd at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Paul Schleuter officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 448 S. Wood St., Piqua, OH 45356; Redeemer Lutheran Church Building Fund, 405 N. Walnut St., Seymour, IN 47274; Schneck Medical Center Hospice, 411 W. Tipton St., Seymour, IN; Hoosier Christian Village, 621 S. Sugar St., Brownstown, IN 47220.
